Milei's speech clearly criticizes socialism and promotes capitalism, using strong language against leftist ideologies, framing it within a right perspective. Phrases like 'enough with socialism' and 'defend the capitalist system' demonstrate a clear inclination in his speech.

Speech by the President of the Nation, Javier Milei, at the grand Vox event "Viva 24" in Vistalegre Madrid, Spain.
To start, I want to thank the organizers of Viva Vox and my dear friend, Santiago Abascal, for inviting me to be here with you today. On Friday, presenting my book "The Path of the Libertarian," I mentioned that when I began this whole venture of publicly engaging in the cultural battle, I was lonelier than Adam on Mother's Day, and in that context, one of the few who embraced me and stood by me when everyone turned their back was dear Santiago. So, I want to begin today by publicly thanking him in front of all of you. Thank you, Santiago.
Look, Santiago, how far we have come and how much we have ahead of us. I have been preaching my invention of the capitalist system in auditoriums where most people listening do not always share what I say, sometimes even preaching directly before people who detest it because they feel singled out by my criticism, as happened, for example, at the Davos Forum.
So, I must say that, just like when I spoke at the Milken Institute in Los Angeles, it is pleasant to be among friends today. It is comforting to be in front of an audience that shares our ideas and is part of the enormous task of fighting the cultural battle against those who want to impose a worldview that is not only immoral but contrary to the values that made the West great. It is true that two years is nothing, but some things have happened since the last time I was here with you.
When I presented myself here, two years ago, I was just a national deputy accompanied only by the one who now holds the office of Vice President of the Nation, and we faced the entire political system in Argentina defending the ideas of Liberty. I want to tell you that while I now have a job that is a little more complicated and somewhat more particular, I have never set aside, nor will I in the future, my historical task of being a humble disseminator of the ideas of liberty.
Because I am convinced that today more than ever, these ideas and values that brought humanity to its highest point are in danger and need to be defended from the onslaught of damnable and cancerous socialism. Socialism, that ideology painted with an altruistic patina that basically hides the worst of human beings, which is envy, hatred, resentment, unequal treatment before the law, and if necessary, murder, because never forget that the damn socialists murdered 150 million human beings.
Recently at the conference I gave at the Milken Institute, I said that, in a sense, we Argentinians are prophets of an apocalyptic future that we have already lived, but that the rest of the West still has ahead of them. Because if you look at the history of Argentina over the last two centuries, you will see a tragedy in two parts: rise and fall. A tragedy that is a testimony to what can happen when the ideas of liberty are replaced by any type of collectivist experiment.
In the second half of the 19th century, Argentine leadership etched in stone the basic principles of liberalism that are the defense of life, liberty, and private property, and as a result, we saw the strongest economic growth process in our history. Actually, Argentina was growing more than the equivalent of current Chinese rates. In just 35 years, we became a world power. We were the first nation in human history to eradicate illiteracy; we had a total gross domestic product higher than the sum of Brazil, Mexico, Paraguay, and Peru combined; we were the first world power in terms of GDP per capita.
We, a peripheral country that the rest of the world barely knew, were the Mecca of the West and received millions and millions of immigrants who dreamed of a better life in Argentina, most of them Spaniards; from there stems part of the eternal brotherhood between our peoples.
But at some point in the first half of the 20th century, the political leadership fell in love with the State, abandoned the ideas of liberty, and replaced them with the doctrine of social justice, which directly assaults the freedom and property of the individual. There began the century of humiliation for Argentina, 100 years of decline in which all the basic rules of the economy were broken repeatedly to sustain the eagerness of politicians to spend what we do not have.
Under the delusional pretext that where there is a need, a right is born, Argentina permanently lived with a fiscal deficit, with a constant increase in public spending and a situation that had to be financed. Firstly, the immoral politicians finance it with debt, which is nothing more than passing the present party onto our children, our grandchildren, and future generations. Naturally, when financing runs out, they resort to the money printing machine, and thus, basically, Argentina has, for example, removed 13 zeros from the currency, has experienced two hyperinflations without war, today we could remove three more zeros from the currency, and they have created a true disaster with the inflationary tax, robbing us all the time.
And when they have no alternative left, they directly raise explicit taxes, making the country truly uncompetitive. As a result of these measures, we saw how our citizens began to systematically impoverish themselves, falling to 140th place in the world in the per capita GDP ranking, having increased poverty tenfold in the last 50 years. And not only that, Argentina, which is a country that produces food for 400 million human beings and has a fiscal pressure in the agricultural sector of 70%, meaning that the damn State takes food from 280 million people and five million Argentinians lack food.
Enough of socialism, enough of hunger, enough of misery!
For that reason, when I look at Europe today and also at the United States, I see, slowly, how small signs of the tragic path that Argentina unfortunately walked begin to appear. On the other side of history, while socialism destroyed Argentina, free market capitalism literally saved the world. Just look at the global economic history of the last 250 years, particularly the last 100 years to demonstrate this.
Until approximately the year 1800, the world's per capita GDP remained virtually constant, but from the 19th century due to the Industrial Revolution, per capita GDP not only increased, but did so exponentially, multiplying by over 20 times and generating an explosion of wealth that lifted 90% of the world's population out of poverty, even as the population multiplied eightfold. Let the damn abortionists deal with that data.
What does this mean? That as capitalism advanced, wealth increased at an ever-increasing rate. That is why, while in the 19th century, the global per capita GDP growth rate was on average 0.6% per year compounded, in the period from 1950 to 2000, we see that the growth rate was 2.1% compounded annually, and if adjusted for the underestimation of statistics, we would be over 3% compounded annually.
In other words, free enterprise capitalism has been a panacea for the West, which is why it is no coincidence that those countries that are free grow twice as fast as repressed countries and have a per capita GDP 12 times greater than that of a repressed country. Therefore, not only that, but also, those poor countries, those that are poor in free market capitalist countries, have an average income in the lowest decile of 15 times greater, and 90% of the population in those repressed countries live below what a poor person would live in a capitalist country.
This demonstrates, despite the left's cries, that free markets generate prosperity for all, not just for some. There is no case in all of human history where a country has embraced the ideas of liberty, that it has not experienced an explosion of growth and prosperity for everyone. On the contrary, socialism, whenever it has been attempted, not only in Argentina but throughout the world, has been a failure economically, a failure socially, a failure culturally, and in many cases a failure imposed over piles and piles of corpses and names.
This point is central to achieving a complete understanding of the tragedy that socialism represents. Given that socialism is an ideology that goes directly against human nature, it necessarily leads to slavery or death; there is no other possible fate, opening the door to socialism is inviting death. But while all this is obvious, today it is more important than ever to point it out because in recent decades, global elites have unfortunately been captivated by the siren songs of socialism.
Through ideas, speeches, and values that have seeped into the common sense of our societies, promoted by supranational organizations, NGOs, educational institutions, and the entertainment and media industry; speeches claiming that capitalism is bad because it is individualistic and that collectivism is good because it is altruistic, therefore they argue for social justice. They pursue the private sector to submit to commandments of supposed morality on issues such as gender, racial issues, or environmental concerns, which often directly assault freedom and the ability of businesses to generate wealth, and also on human life.
It seems they do not understand that social justice is always unjust because it implies theft, because it implies unequal treatment before the law, and that every attempt by politicians to act virtuous ends up harming wealth generation and consequently harming society as a whole. They also do not realize or do not seem to care that the cost of sustaining this well-intentioned pantomime of the progressives is subverting all the values that made Western civilization the spearhead of the history of human progress. Because, deep down, they are being guided by the lowest human passions, such as envy, hatred, and resentment, which cloud thought and blind them. Moreover, they are blinded to the point that they continually project their miseries onto others.
Therefore, to all those who think they are saving the world with a present State, with high taxes, with gender quotas and punishing entrepreneurs, I say: Do you know what is best for workers? That they freely negotiate contracts with their employers. Do you know what is best for women? To stop treating them as victims who need special care. I wonder: Do socialists consider women to be inferior beings to be granting them privileges?
I ask socialists: Is it not enough to be equal before the law? Do you know what is best for the planet? To let the market find, as it has always done, the best solutions. Do you know what is best for children? A father and a mother who know them much better than any bureaucrat. And do you know how this is achieved? By removing the parasitic State from people's lives and letting citizens be free. Letting them associate freely, choose what to produce, whom to employ, where to study, to whom to sell, what to buy, and what to do with the fruits of their labor.
In short, the world is saved not by chasing after a guilty agenda of a few bureaucrats, but by shrinking the State to empower society.
We must destroy that parasitic idea learned in the West that says the task of the State, that is, of the bureaucrat, is to control every aspect of the lives of citizens. That idea that politicians must take care of people from the cradle to the grave. This has never been the task of the State; the task of the State, if it exists, is to defend the life, liberty, and private property of individuals. But the global elites do not realize how destructive implementing socialist ideas can be because they are too far removed; they do not understand what kind of society and country can be produced and what kind of people entrenched in power and what levels of abuse it can generate. I mean, even when I have the corrupt woman, she gets dirty and takes five days to think about it.
That is why it falls to me to show them how sinister and nefarious socialism is. Because we have lived it firsthand, we suffer it every day, because Argentina is a country infected with socialism for decades, or perhaps I should say, it was. Socialism leads to poverty and death; anyone who says otherwise is either ignorant or a liar. And since socialism leads to death, we can never, ever, give in, not even a millimeter to the left, even when it seems they are right, because they are never right.
When we leave a crack open, they will attack us from a position better for them. They take advantage of the weakest among us, those who have not earned the abundance they enjoy, those who have inherited it without knowing the sacrifice it has entailed, those who, feeling guilty, want to use all of us to solve their own problems. But we are not weak; we have earned what we have, we truly believe what we say, it has cost us blood and sweat to reach where we have reached, and no one and nothing is going to stand in our way.
It doesn't matter what they do, it doesn't matter what they say, or how they attack us; that is why I tell you, I couldn't care less about the opinions of the left. Ultimately, there is nothing they can do to alter the course of events.
In light of the things I usually say, of the discussions I often engage in, I frequently receive criticism from various actors in the establishment, particularly from the establishment of journalism. I mean, with the withdrawal of official advertising from the media, it seems I’m looking for work in the basement, and I’m going to kick out the redhead... But don't worry, he’s a leftist too, so I’m not interested in that business. They tell me, 'But you are now a head of state, how can you be making these comments? How can you talk this way about your political opponents, how can you speak this way about other leaders as you did two years ago, or about a president,' as I am now.
In any case, now that I am president, my responsibility to wage the cultural battle is even greater, because what I do and say has a bigger impact. And waging the cultural battle is not only morally correct, but also necessary from the government’s point of view; it is necessary for the success of any liberal or libertarian government program, for the policies they implement to be durable, and for citizens themselves to defend their freedom in the future and not let themselves be trampled again by the socialists.
Moreover, it is important to raise our voice, as our adversaries always play with an advantage. They have their people embedded at all levels of the State, they have the power of unions and social organizations, they have the privileged businessmen who live off the State and finance them, they have supranational organizations, non-governmental organizations, the media and the entertainment industry, and in my case, in my country, even control over football.
In this sense, we must acknowledge that they have done a formidable job in terms of what Antonio Gramsci would call 'the construction of a true global hegemony.' If all of us who believe in life, liberty, and property do nothing, we are condemned. If all of us who believe in the values that made the West the most prosperous civilization in history do nothing, we are condemned. That is why all of us here, Spanish and Argentine citizens, presidents, thinkers, entrepreneurs, all of us who believe in freedom, must stand up and tell them enough!
Enough of the hatred, resentment, and envy that socialism entails. Enough of the self-flagellation and guilt of the West. Enough of the pretense of living in a glass world, where no one can feel offended. Enough of the State's interference in every single aspect of our lives; let us return to defend the values that made the West great. Let us return to defend life, liberty, and property.
We are already five months into my presidency of the Argentine Republic, since December 10, and I can proudly say that we are strictly fulfilling the promise we made to the Argentines. We took over an economy on the brink of hyperinflation, with a consolidated fiscal deficit of 15 points, with uncontrolled monetary issuance after having issued money equivalent to 13 points of GDP in one year, with prices suppressed to ridiculous levels and with extremely high interest rates; and despite all that, we are turning it around.
With a tremendous effort from all Argentines, but slowly we are turning it around. We have systematically resurrected inflation, month after month, until reaching monthly inflation in the single digits. We have lowered the interest rate without triggering inflation or the exchange rate. We are undergoing the largest and most abrupt adjustment in human history, and to the horror of the left, society continues to support us under the same conditions as on December 10.
That is why the local and international left is crying, because everything they summarize as impossible, we are realizing. Because everything they have broken with their economic shamanism, we are mending through work and through the correct ideas and values; because all the ideas, values, and theories they preach in my country have already failed. And everything they fear is starting to succeed. And also because we are showing the world that, even in the worst adversity, even bearing the worst economic legacy in the history of the country, even being the government with the least institutional power in history and even with all the politics, the media, and the privileged businessmen against us, those of us who wield the truth in one hand and conviction in the other can persevere and triumph.
Because sooner or later, the truth always prevails over the lie, freedom always prevails over oppression, life always prevails over death, and good always triumphs over evil. For all this, I want to tell you that I am an optimist. More and more people in the world are rebelling against the damn socialist mandate, and they do it because unlike the socialists, we trust the citizens; we think we should treat them like children in a kindergarten.
We trust in their creativity, in their ability to solve problems on their own, in their judgment to raise their children in freedom within the family, we trust in the ability of men and women to forge their own destiny and that this will benefit society as a whole. And this trust we have in the common citizen eventually returns because to gain trust, one must give trust, and we have established a pact of truth with society, because as I always say: it is preferable to tell an uncomfortable truth than a comfortable lie.
For all this, I want to commit myself to all of you and tell you that I will not fail you. I will preach by example and show the world that a government with our ideas can succeed, and the feats our government accomplishes in Argentina will be a testament to and a preaching of the capitalist paradigm of free enterprise. But they will not be any miracle; rather, they will be the necessary consequence of applying the correct ideas, because freedom is the only possible path to prosperity. That is why I tell you, let's be encouraged in this quest to save the West from decadence, because the West still has time to choose whether it wants to continue on the path of failure or want to return to the road of freedom.
Finally, I want to leave you with a phrase from one of the greatest thinkers of the 20th century, Ludwig Von Mises, who also demonstrated the impossibility of socialism back in 1922 with his famous treatise 'Socialism.' Mises argued that socialism is an alternative to capitalism just as potassium cyanide is an alternative to water. And since Mises was a person with great vision and understood what the challenge was about, he made a quote from Virgil his motto, a phrase in Latin that says: 'Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito.' What means do not yield to evil, but confront it with greater boldness. Let us not yield to socialism; let us confront it with greater courage.
Naturally, it seems like a titanic task, it seems like we are few, but we have nothing to fear because victory on the battlefield does not depend on the number of soldiers, but on the forces that come from heaven. ¡Viva la libertad, carajo! (Long live freedom, damn it!) ¡Viva la libertad, carajo! (Long live freedom, damn it!) ¡Viva la libertad, carajo! (Long live freedom, damn it!) Thank you very much. Thank you, Santiago. Thank you, Vox. Thank you all, thank you, thank you very much.
Muchas gracias. Gracias Santiago. Gracias Vox. Gracias a todos, gracias, muchas gracias.
