What each rate measures
- Official dollar
- The retail rate banks charge the public in the official market. Above is the selling rate reported by DolarApi; the BCRA bar shows the official average.
- Blue dollar
- The informal market rate, outside the banking system. It has no official source: the value comes from surveys of informal exchange houses published by the media.
- MEP dollar
- The MEP dollar (electronic payment market), or “stock-market dollar”, comes from buying a bond or stock in pesos and selling it in dollars inside Argentina. It is a legal operation done through a bank or broker.
- CCL dollar
- The CCL (contado con liquidación) works like the MEP, but the dollars are credited to an account abroad. That is why companies and investors use it as their usual reference.
- FX gap
- The percentage difference between a financial dollar and the official one. Here it is (CCL ÷ official − 1) × 100, with selling rates.
- Country risk
- Country risk (JP Morgan's EMBI index) measures, in basis points, how much more Argentine dollar bonds yield than US Treasury bonds. 100 basis points equal 1 percentage point.
